Enabling Intelligent Automation using Computer Vision

Optical Character Recognition is an important part of automated processing, through its ability to take human eyeballs out of the process and replace them with software driven processing. And yet, OCR has at times proven of limited effectiveness. The key culprit is the fact that many documents flowing into operations take an inconsistent format, and OCR works best when documents are standardized.

This is where Computer Vision steps in to fix the problem. Integrated into automation solutions, Computer Vision applies a “smarter” means of scanning and identifying critical data in document form. In combination with automation and OCR, therefore, Computer Vision drives significant performance improvement. The primary role Computer Vision plays is to identify those ‘areas’ or ‘regions’ of interest in a given document, and pass this information on to an OCR engine, where the information will be converted into a structured format.
